ABA Therapy "What to Expect" |
|
Your child will have an initial assessment that will determine what skill areas he/she will need to focus on during therapy. This assessment will last about 2-3 hours. Parents will be interviewed at the beginning in order for the Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to get an idea of where the child is developmentally, the second portion of the assessment will test the child to see what level they are at in each skill area.
When the assessment is complete the BCBA will write up a treatment plan and create long and short-term goals for your child to work on over the course of 6 months. Every 6 months we re-test the child and create new goals for them based on their accomplishments. ABA therapy sessions will consist of 2-3 hour sessions per day for 3-5 days a week, 1:1 sessions. The session will consist of DTT (discrete trial training) and NET (natural environment training). These sessions will focus on the goals created specifically for your child. Some skills that may be worked on are, social skills, receptive skills, behavior reduction, language development, and play skills. These will vary from child to child depending on their specific needs. |

Verbal Behavior
Manding- mand training will help your child communicate their wants and needs. Tacting- tacting will help your child label common items, sounds, and smells. Motor Imitation- this teaches how to mimic and reproduce movements of another person. Echoics- this happens when a person repeats exactly what they hear from another person, sounds or words. Intraverbals- this is the teaching the child to fill-in blanks, to respond to a question, and to hold a conversation with another person. Receptive Tasks- following instructions and the identification of items. Parent Support Sessions
A parent support session will be utilized 1-2x per week for 1-hour sessions. These sessions are used to provide support to the parent and teach them the different strategies used throughout their child's ABA session in order for the parent to provide the same level of care throughout the day/week when an ABA therapist is not present. These sessions are also used to discuss the progress your child is making and to discuss any concerns that you may have about your child. Behavioral Solutions wants you to feel involved with your child's progress and wants you to be able to implement all the strategies along with understanding the why behind what we do. |
Problem Behavior Program
Does your child engage in behaviors that appear to be more extreme or of higher intensity than a typical developing child? Does your child engage in the following behaviors when told no, told to wait, or when they are trying to get their needs/wants met: Hitting Kicking Noncompliance Biting Repetitive Behaviors Scratching Property Destruction Throwing toys/other items Or does your child have a difficult time with: Transitions Accepting no/wait Behavioral Solutions will create an individualized behavior reduction plan specifically to help your child engage in appropriate behaviors by teaching them functional communication, emotional regulation skills, coping strategies, and other replacement behaviors that are more appropriate for them to engage in when they are experiencing negative emotions. We understand that these behaviors can be difficult to deal with, which is why we are here to help. |
